The hotel itself is gorgeous and elegant and is surrounded by an abundance of beautiful foliage. The staff was very friendly, particularly the reception staff who assisted us with obtaining great seats for a Shaw Festival play. The location is wonderful, just a 5-10 minute walk to the main street and Shaw theater. We had lunch on the patio overlooking the marina but ate dinner in town (dinner at the hotel was quite expensive). We would definitely return.
The only negative was that we requested a view of the marina, and unfortunately, instead of a scenic marina view, we overlooked a concrete lot. For the money we paid, we thought the view should have been a little nicer.
Food and receptiion
Price a little upscale food good
We loved the location and the shuttle service anywhere we wanted to go as we had a handicapped person with us. We were given a room upgrade which we appreciated but...(see below).
Our upgraded room was directly above the entrance to the hotel. The air conditioner did not work so we needed to keep the windows open. We were awakened throughout the night with the comings and goings in and out the front door, loud talking, and cigar smoke coming in the windows. The lighting in our room was very poor making it very difficult to read or dress. The front desk did not make American change although many of their guests are American.
The layout and proximity to the theatre (not listed above, surprisingly)
The food - Dinner: My request for a medium steak produced a tough overcooked tasteless piece of meat - all for $45!! Breakfast: The "hot" buffet (sausage and egg) was tepid and rubbery The restaurant staff were pleasant but had the identical "patter" for every guest. The interaction was impersonal
Spacious room and super friendly staff made our stay one to remember! The shower was great, as was the complimentary wine! The location was perfect for roaming around the town and the proximity to multiple, outstanding dining options a tough choice for dinner! Will definitely stay here again.
Staff very friendly. Very relaxing, quiet. Great location.
Advertised a whirlpool but it was a bath with jets.I Have bad knees and am unable to get out of the tub. If it was a whirlpool, I would be able to sit on seat ledge and not have to go completely into the tub to relax. Disappointing
Hotel staff Breakfast Location Good looking
Lunch on patio too expensive for the quality Room a little bit too small
It is a "very classic" Hotel in a very nice environment. It is a bit "stiff", and "old fashioned" but a very nice hotel.
It is acting too much in the "old way" of Hotel Management, an addition of some more "modern" approach would even improve the overall rating of the Hotel
It was a perfect location for the wedding we attended and a most hospitable environment for our large family reunion.
Staff was very friendly and efficient. Give them a 10+ in all areas!
There were many areas for improvement as we outlined in our Guest Review Questionnaire at the end of our stay. These were all practical suggestions. eg. a ceiling bathroom fan, a sheet of tv stations available in their welcome binder, posting special day menus in the lobby & dining area before the event, artwork/pictures in the room to create warmth/ambience, coffee/tea station on one of the main floors, warming up the room before guests arrive, heat source in bathroom to maintain comfortable temperature, and so on.
Most appreciated was the feeling of individual attention no matter the need or the time of day, at the desk, the room, or the dining room. It was the extra little touches that counted - the rose on the bed and the radio playing soft music upon entering the room in the evening, always greeted with warm smiles. The location in an area rich in history and culture; it was easy to take advantage of a little bit of everything.
The food at the Tiara restaurant was fantastic.
No free Wi-fi!
Location and quality.
Stair case carpets are tired and worn.
the room (the bed) was especially comfortable. The food was excellent. They (everyone who worked there) were helpful and accomodating.
Well kept hotel with very nice areas to dine or relax in or out and beautiful flowered gardens. The bed was excellent and so was the breakfast.
No porters or doorman available at door.
